Fighting out to find Light

Birth of NMH:

There is a purpose behind every person's birth. One should utilise his/her knowledge and efforts not only for his/her own growth but also contribute a little for the growth of the deprived ones, by which way one can give real meaning to their birth. We as responsible human beings should give a helping hand to the needy and less privileged people of the society. With this motto the Netaji Mercy Home blossomed up on 12th September 2000 with the sole efforts of Mr.Muthukumar and Mrs. Kala Muthukumar.

Activities at NMH:

  • The orphanage aims at providing food, clothing, shelter and education to children below 14 years. In addition to this they serve love and affection to all the children deprived children.

  • They nurture children who are totally abandoned by their parents and the society. .
  • They also take best of their efforts to support those mentally retarded and destitue people at the roadside by giving them food packets and clothing whenever possible.
  • Till date, they have looked after 50 children providing them all the basic facilities. They aim to serve more children but with the present facilities they are unable to satisfy the basic needs of everyone.
  • They had conducted Yoga classes for few months. But again, due to lack of funds they were not able to continue with the classes. The children show good interest towards Yoga and other cultural activity. As a testimony the inmates gave a cultural feast to the employees of Advent Net and Infosys in their respective organization.
  • Apart from providing shelter to destitute children, Muthukumar also helps them get re-united with their parents. ''Many children, who have run away from their homes or were brought to the city illegally, have been reunited with their parents,'' he says ''After all, it's providing a home for them that matters.'
  • This organization has also played a major role of the Tsunami Relief works at Pondicherry.

The inmates to this orphanage are also being enrolled with the help of Childline –a well known helpline, which basically directs deserted children to various orphanage homes.

  • Donors to NMH:

The SNEHAM organization of the corporate giant Infosys helped the home by providing funds for uniform and building. Other helping hands are their friends who drop in at times. They get sponsors for food. Currently the orphanage is run mainly by the contributions from the philanthropists. It has no permanent source of income to make it self supporting.

    Request for helping hand:

At present, Muthukumar is renovating his house to accommodate more children. He has taken a loan of Rs.2 lakh to renovate his house so that he can bring in more children. He also plans to set up separate homes for girls and boys and later set up a school for them. Presently, the children of the mercy home are studying in Corporation schools. Muthukumar, who is now waiting for the government's approval to get his mercy home registered in his name, says ''I want to run this orphanage myself so that I can help more children.''

The following are the means of help to the inmates of NMH:
